Toronto is one of the most sought after locations amongst overseas students to study. It has emerged as a hub of education having prominent colleges like Humber college, Seneca college, Centennial college and George Brown college, and also premier universities like University of Toronto, York University, Ryerson University and OCAD University. One of the pre-requisites to get a study visa to study in this area is the IELTS exam.
The under-graduate courses normally accept overseas students if they have scored 6.0 bands overall in the IELTS exam, with a minimum 5.5 bands in each module. It could be like 5.5 bands in either of the four modules and 6.0 or above in the rest three. It could even be 5.5 bands in two modules and 6.0 or above in the other two.
For the post-graduate courses the requirement is towards the higher side. To be admitted to these courses, a student needs to attain 6.5 bands overall, with a minimum 6.0 bands in each module. However, there are a few colleges, like Northern college and St Clare, where overall 6.0 bands and a minimum 5.5 bands in each of the modules is also accepted. This completely depends upon the discretion of the college. Universities generally stick to 6.0 bands each.
Along with a minimum band requirement, these educational institutes also have a requisite of 51% aggregate in the last taken qualification.
