Can a high score in IELTS help you get a scholarship ?

Most of the educational institutes abroad lay a requisite of a specific band score in IELTS before admitting overseas students in under graduate and post graduate courses. This ranges from 5.5 each module and 6.0 overall to 6.0 bands each and 6.5 overall bands. A student getting bands more than that can be termed as a high score. Such a score can enhance the prospects of procuring scholarship if only the university or college has a provision for that.

IELTS band score along with other factors like the aggregate in the last taken qualification and senior secondary examination are also amongst the deciding factors for scholarship. The universities assess the candidate on these parameters and then make a decision regarding granting partial or full scholarship.

With the increase in the ranking of the universities, even the scholarship criteria also get tougher. This can also vary on the basis of the course that has been chosen by the candidate .British Council also has a provision of scholarships but that only applies to a few universities in UK.

Thus, a band score 7.0 and above can be of help in getting a scholarship, but this does not ensure your chance of scholarship. The previous academic aggregates are mainly assessed by the universities to grant scholarships.
